97 Ghia Key Reprogramming

Hi there, new here. I've just bought a 97 ghia 1.9 galaxy. I only have one key, with a fob on it. I've been trying to reprogramming the key but with no joy. I've tried turning the key in the drivers lock 3 times to try and get the led light on the drives door to stay on and I cannot get this to stay on.

 

I've read I may need to get a vag-com lead?

 

Can anyone help?

hi , thanks for the reply. thats a great faq. i follw the instuctions to the letter, but cannot get the door led to stay on . When its locked it flashes. When I try the method turning the key in the lock three times to the lock postion, the led goes off after every other turn, but when comes back on just flashes.

 

I've bought a vagcom lead off ebay, and tried using that and its given me a fault code 01143 - Central Locking Motors; Driver Door and Tank Valve Unlocked

 

any one know how to fix this? central locking works, i can open the car from driver and passanger side with the key and also the boot. I phoned ford and they said to reprogramme the key would cost around

I have this exact same problem on a 1997 Ghia 2.3 Auto Petrol. I cant get the light in the door to do the lighting up solid thing so that i can program the key. I have tried numerous times, using numerous peoples FAQs and instructions and still the light doesnt stay lit. Central locking from the key works perfectly.

well, i feel right silly! I've read over 10 different instructions on how to reprogram the remote central locking. Until I read one that was different.

 

When I put the key in the drivers door and turned to UNLOCK 3 times, the door light stayed on, then press the unlock button 3times held it on the third and pressed the lock butting 3 times and left go at the same time. The light on the key flashed 5 times and the light on the door flashed 6 i think. Next thing I know its working . <_< very happy
